May Matching Challenge is Here!
The May Matching Challenge is here!
At Jesus on Colfax, one of the ways people can walk towards stability and transformation is by joining Crew. Crew is a leadership role within the Family Room for people who are beginning to show initiative and take next steps. Crew members help set up and run the Family Room: welcoming others, organizing the store, and creating a space where people feel seen and valued.
In Crew, people practice leadership, build consistency, and learn accountability in a supportive community. For many, it’s a stepping stone into the RISE program. For others, especially those who have housing but still need support before entering the workforce, it’s a critical place to rebuild confidence and stability. It all starts with showing up. Our last two Crew members were Jaqueline and Travis and here are their stories.
For Jaqueline, it started with someone saying, “Come with me.”
When she first came to Jesus on Colfax, life felt heavy and uncertain. Years of instability, prostitution, a toxic relationship, and addiction had taken their toll. But what she found here was consistency, community, and a place where she wasn’t defined by her past.
Week after week, she kept showing up. When she was invited into Crew, she said yes. Today, Jaqueline is working full-time. With a smile, she says, “Just look at me now!”
Travis’ story began just as simply.
He came because he needed a meal. But he stayed because he found something more, a place where people knew his name, where he belonged. He joined Crew and began helping set up the Family Room, organizing clothes in the store, and serving alongside the team. What started as receiving became giving back.
“It felt really, really good to belong,” he shared. “To be an important part of my community.”
When he was ready for his next step, our team walked with him, driving him to detox and supporting him every step of the way. Today, Travis is 120 days sober and has just started a full-time job.
“Jesus on Colfax has been the biggest supporter of my recovery,” he said.
These stories don’t happen all at once. They are built over time, through consistency, through relationship, and through people who keep showing up, again and again.
This month your gift can go twice as far toward building real pathways toward stability and transformation.
